School-Based Programs
At Norton Arts, we are passionate about empowering the youth of today with practical knowledge and skills to better protect themselves now and in the future. Our focus is ALWAYS on preventing violence but also facing the realities of it both mentally and physically. At Norton Arts, we believe in educating others to better identify, avoid and manage difficult situations as our goal is to prevent victims of violence.
In our endeavour to make this training accessible to as many students as possible, we are working with school boards/branches of Intermediate and High-Schools across Prince Edward Island and the East Anglophone Region of New Brunswick. Our goal is to eventually have self-protection built into the school curriculum as in Ontario and other provinces. Until this happens, we offer our courses as After-School programs.

(Breaking down the misconceptions)

There is a huge misconception when it comes to understanding the term "Self-Protection". Why? Well, many see self-protection and self-defence as one and the same. They are not. As much as self-protection does include the physical defence of self (self-defence), the primary focus is ALWAYS on PREVENTING violence but also managing the realities of it. Self-Protection is not teaching a martial arts-based approach to physical defence, but practical non-complicated movements.

That's right! students can take this 5 hr self-protection course that typically costs $79.00 per person for a fraction of the cost. This is a result of the relationship we are building with the schools. Space limited to approximately 24 participants.

Please Note: Pre-registration required. Payments are non-refundable unless an event is canceled by an organizer. Participants are required to sign a liability waiver and bring indoor shoes and water.

We take what we teach extremely seriously as we know how sensitive a subject it can be. Our focus is ALWAYS on providing the education to PREVENT VIOLENCE whenever possible. The classes are taught in a RELAXED, FRIENDLY and FUN manner in an attempt to remove the anxiety many have about learning certain aspects of violence prevention, especially the physical defence of self. What we teach is practical self-protection, not martial arts. It goes way beyond what many others term as self-defence instruction.
