Norton Arts is committed to providing accessible, inclusive, and trauma-aware training experiences for all learners. Our goal is to ensure that every participant can engage fully with A.S.P.I.R.E.™ programs and related training services, regardless of ability, background, or personal circumstance.

This Accessibility & Inclusion Statement outlines the steps we take to ensure equitable access and meaningful participation in our training programs.

1. OUR COMMITMENT TO ACCESSIBILITY

Norton Arts is dedicated to:

  • Providing flexible learning environments

  • Removing barriers to participation

  • Ensuring materials are accessible to a wide range of needs

  • Offering support to learners who require accommodations

  • Continuously improving accessibility across all programs and services

We strive to meet or exceed recognized accessibility standards and best practices within Canada and internationally.

2. TRAUMA-AWARE AND PERSON-CENTERED DESIGN

A.S.P.I.R.E.™ programs are built on a trauma-aware educational framework. We recognize that some learners may have experienced:

  • Workplace conflict

  • Emotional harm

  • Domestic or interpersonal violence

  • High-stress or unsafe environments

  • Trauma associated with conflict, safety, or boundary-setting

Our training approach incorporates:

  • Respectful, non-triggering language

  • Gradual progression of concepts

  • Reflection-based activities (with optional depth)

  • Self-paced learning to reduce overwhelm

  • Clear content warnings when appropriate

  • Emotional regulation tools and grounding strategies

Learners may pause, repeat, or skip certain sections as needed for emotional safety.

3. ACCESSIBLE LEARNING FORMATS

To support diverse learning needs, Norton Arts provides:

  • Self-paced modules accessible 24/7

  • Closed captions on all core video content

  • Readable text formats suitable for screen readers

  • Downloadable PDFs for offline reference

  • Adjustable playback speed for video lessons

  • Keyboard-navigable learning interfaces

  • High-contrast visual design where possible

  • Simple, plain-language explanations throughout content

Additional formats may be provided upon request whenever feasible.

4. ACCOMMODATIONS FOR LEARNERS

We offer reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to training. These may include:

  • Extended access periods

  • Alternative assignment formats

  • Text-based alternatives to video content

  • Adjustments to reflective exercises

  • Instructor support for clarification or guidance

5. ACCESSIBILITY IN LIVE OR IN-PERSON TRAINING

For blended training or in-person workshops, Norton Arts will:

  • Provide printed or digital materials ahead of time upon request

  • Ensure training spaces are accessible when hosting onsite events

  • Adapt physical activities where possible to accommodate mobility or physical limitations

  • Offer non-physical participation pathways for Self-Defence Essentials

  • Support breaks, pacing adjustments, or grounding moments as needed

If training is hosted by an organization, we rely on the venue to meet local accessibility requirements and encourage hosts to notify us of any accommodation needs in advance.

6. COMMUNICATION ACCESSIBILITY

We strive to ensure that communication is clear, respectful, and accessible by providing:

  • Plain-language content

  • Clear headings and structured layouts

  • Responsive email support

  • Options for written or video-based guidance

  • Step-by-step instructions for platform navigation

Learners may request communication in alternative formats whenever required.
